SALA Members with WCS at Legacy Lacrosse Tournament

SALA Members with WCS at Legacy Lacro

Last weekend the SALA boys (Shane Crownhart, Cole Frost, Reid Sinclair and Chris Sullivan) finished up their Massachusetts trip with the West Coast Starz Regional Teams.  The boys arrived in Boston Friday night, checking into to a hotel near Tufts University with 176 other players from across the west.  The WCS coaches ran them through two days of practice and lectures at the Tufts athletic complex.  The weather for the two days of practice was outstanding, 80 degrees & breezy.   Sunday night they moved to a hotel closer to Ft. Deven, home of the 2014 Legacy Lacrosse tournament.

Pool play began Monday morning.  The WCS-Desert team (Frost, Sullivan & Sinclair) went 3 - 0, seeding them #1 for Tuesdays playoff. The WCS-desert beat Laxachucetts, 128 LAX & the Holligans.

The WCS Rocky Mountain Team (Crownhart) had a tougher day 1, going 0-3.

Play on Monday was cut short by a late afternoon severe thunderstorm, a storm that had this commentator wondering if he was playing a role in the Wizard of Oz.  Tornado warnings had everyone scurrying for cover.

Tuesday morning, the Desert Starz, after jumping out to a 4-0 lead, lost in the semi-finals 9 to 7 to the Tomahawks (N.H).  The Starz shook off the early morning loss going head to head with a "merged" Laxachucetts team in a back and forth battle for 3rd place.  The Starz came up short 9-8 in a well played, aggressive game.

Chris Sullivan was placed on the tournament All-Star team.

It was a great 4 days of practice with some excellent coaches and competition against some of the  top club teams in the east.  The SALA boys represented Tucson well.  They were all gentlemen, tough competitors and excellent teammates.

The West Coast Starz (WCS) sectional teams (Northwest, Mountain, SoCal and Desert)  just completed a successful and fun trip to Boston.  The teams met at Logan Airport in  Boston on friday night, then had two days of practice and drills at Tufts University with the WCS coaches.  The boys went through drills and scrimmaged each other as preparation for the Legacy Invitational Tournament outside Boston.

The WCS sectional teams were selected in the early spring, comprising some of the best players in the West, dividing them by region and graduating class.  The WCS Desert team was made up of players from Utah, Nevada, Texas and Arizona.  Chris Sullivan (2015) was the only Southern Arizona player on either of the 2014, 2015 or 2016 Desert teams.

WCS Desert (2015) beat Brady's Bunch, NJLC, New Hampshire Royals, Hooligans but lost a tough match to Laxachusetts.  The 2015 Desert Team was the #2 seed going into the playoffs (two WCS teams in final 4). They then lost in the semi-finals in a close 4 to 3 game against WCS - Northwest.  The boys were disappointed to miss a rematch in the finals with Laxachusetts.  All the games were well played and fast paced.

Overall a great weekend, lots of new friends and a wonderful experience.  The boys had fun but also had the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the top college lacrosse programs in the country.

SALA Lacrosse Academy Partners with Adrenaline Starz

By: Hanly Heubeck

Adrenaline Starz is excited to introduce SALA Lacrosse Academy, which will serve as the sole regional Starz program for the Tucson area. Players will be eligible for West Coast Starz (NSCLA & Desert Sectional Team).  Adrenaline Starz is sponsored by industry leader STX Lacrosse.  SALA will receive the full benefits of the Adrenaline System including the famed Adrenaline Treatment and customized Adrenaline Training Programs to continue program growth. SALA coaches will also have the opportunity to submit player nominations for the Adrenaline Showcase, Adrenaline High Rollers, and Black Card Showcase.

SALA Lacrosse Academy is a well established program in the Tucson area and is led by Bradley Watters, Mike Storie and Mike Kapp. All three directors designed the SALA program to advance the sport of lacrosse in the Tucson area by promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and the development of fundamental skills. SALA Co-Director, Bradley Watters, is looking forward to the expansion of the program through Starz. “Our youth programs are continuing to grow exponentially and our partnership with Starz provides the ability to showcase our growing number of athletes from the Southern Arizona region. Adrenaline Starz is a great organization with a strategic vision that matches our goals; the future is bright for continued growth of lacrosse in Southern Arizona!”

The addition of SALA Lacrosse Academy marks the second Arizona Regional Starz program. SALA will look to pool talent from Tucson, while AZ Force will look to gather the top players from the Phoenix area. Together, these programs are poised to create the most elite teams in Arizona. “I am always impressed by SALA’s dedication to the growth and development of this sport. SALA becoming a Starz program is going to help the growth of lacrosse in Arizona exponentially and I look forward to watching the talent level of this program continue to grow,” stated Adrenaline VP, Rory Doucette.

BREAKING AND EXCITING NEWS - AUSTRALIA, ADRENALINE, & 3D
by posted 09/30/2012

Hello All,

I am very excited to pass along 2 very exciting pieces of news in the SALA world...

First, for the first time ever we have successfully placed Tucson players in 2 very prestigious, invitation-only events.  Based upon our recommendations, and their affiliation with SALA, several boys have been accepted to the 3D Blue Chip Camp and the Adrenaline High Rollers Tournament.  Check out each of their websites and you will see the massive list of college recruiters and scouts that will be attending each of these events.

Again, these boys were selected because they are excellent players, but also, only through their affiliation with SALA.  We have been assured by the folks at Adrenaline and 3D that we will continue to have the opportunity to recommend outstanding players in our program in the upcoming years as well.  They have also asked me to participate as a coach at the 3D camp, which gives us greater exposure and access.

Secondly, we are now finalizing plans to bring one of our teams to Australia this summer. Tentatively we are planning to travel from June 29th to July 13th and play a variety of teams in Melbourne, Victoria.  Since this type of trip requires a lot of planning and lead time, we will be picking this Australia travel team during this Fall SALA session.  That means if you want your son to be part of this once in lifetime experience, he needs to be registered for the Fall session.

I am tremendously proud and excited about the above news.  We can only continue to increase the opportunities for our boys if we encourage growth within out schools and neighborhoods, so please help me spread the word.

Thanks,

Mike

NFL Running Back...a Legend

Lacrosse Legend...
Jim Brown Accomplishments

1.Lacrosse Hall of Famer

2.3 Times Pro Bowl MVP

3.3 Times NFL MVP

4.3 Times UPI NFL MVP

Class: 1983
School/Affiliation: Syracuse University

Considered by many to be the greatest to ever play the game of lacrosse, Jim Brown began his lacrosse career at Manhasset High School in New York where his midfield play earned him All-Star honors for three years.

At Syracuse University, Brown's all-around athletic ability became evident, as he lettered in four sports and was voted the school's Athlete of the Year in 1956-57. Brown was a Second Team All-American Selection in 1956, and earned First Team Honors in 1957, finishing second in the nation in scoring his senior year. Many believe his last game was his greatest moment as a lacrosse player, as Brown scored five goals in one-half of play against the nation's top players in the 1957 Collegiate North/South All-Star game.

Brown went on to achieve great success with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League, and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Although he is best remembered for his gridiron exploits, Brown is quoted as having said, "I'd rather play lacrosse six days a week and football on the seventh."
